Common Questions
Everything You Want to Know
Honest answers about pricing, process, timelines, and what working with an interior designer actually looks like.
Pricing & Cost
Costs vary by scope. At Reid Design: Color & Style Consultation starts at $250 (2-hour in-home session). Room Design Package starts at $1,200 (mood board, floor plan, shopping list). Full-Service Design is custom-quoted. E-Design starts at $299 per room. The Indianapolis market generally runs $50–$200/hr for hourly work, with full room packages from $1,000–$5,000.
No. The design fee is stated upfront before any work begins. The only additional cost is the furnishings and materials you choose to purchase — and you're always in control of that budget. For full-service clients, trade vendor markups are disclosed transparently at the start.
For larger full-service projects, fees are structured in milestones — a deposit at signing, a second payment at concept presentation, and a final payment at installation. For smaller packages like consultations and e-design, full payment is required upfront.
The Process
The discovery call is 20 minutes, free, and completely informal. We talk about your space, goals, rough budget, and timeline. My main goal is to understand whether I'm the right fit — there's no pitch, no pressure.
Absolutely not. Most clients don't know how to articulate their style — that's part of what the consultation uncovers. If you have a Pinterest board or Instagram saves, bring those. If you have nothing, that's fine too. Knowing what you hate is just as useful as knowing what you love.
As involved as you want. Some clients love seeing every decision. Others hand it off completely and want to be surprised at the reveal. Both are valid. The one non-negotiable: you review and approve the design concept before anything is purchased.
Logistics
Color consultation: a single 2-hour session. Room design: 4–6 weeks. Full-service: 8–16 weeks with the biggest variable being furniture lead times. E-design: 7–14 business days from intake.
For full-service clients where I manage purchasing, I handle all claims, returns, and reorders. Vendor relationships and trade accounts come with better resolution processes than retail. I deal with it so you don't have to.
For full-service projects involving renovation, I coordinate with contractors but don't act as a general contractor. I can provide referrals to trusted tradespeople in Indianapolis and manage design-side communication.
Service Area
For in-person projects: Indianapolis, Carmel, Fishers, Westfield, Zionsville, Noblesville, Geist, McCordsville, Broad Ripple, and surrounding neighborhoods. For e-design: nationwide — location is no obstacle.
No. Carmel, Fishers, Westfield, Zionsville, and Noblesville are all within the standard service area — no travel fees or surcharges. The pricing on the services page is the same regardless of which suburb you're in.
